Rehearsing family uses theoretical framework of the terms: “discourse”, “photographic media” and “performative” in searching for a way to make a changes in a long-lasting, stagnant intimate relations such as family ones.
If knowledge, as has been described by M. Foucault and J. Butler, could be questioned by direct experience, knowledge about yourself and people around you could be changed according to the actions which would differ from the previous ones that generated existing knowledge. Wishing to analyze the potential of such direct experience, I have decided to place my family in a new situation and offer every family member a chance to suggest an activity which he (she) have never been shared with the rest of the family before.
It is hard to feel belonging to a group with which we share such a narrowed amount of experience and therefore it is important to find a new shared activities that would help rejoin family members, enhance mutual understanding, feeling of belonging and intimacy.
In my wish to find new practice and “rehears” to feel family emotions, I invited my family on a journey in which I have gathered valuable new experience with my family members who I know for thirty years.
After this art experiment had finished, we returned to our routine, but with the new knowledge about how things can be different, that became constitute part of our relationships.
